Nest Photo

Here's the photo I took of the nest the birds were working on in our barbecue. I didn't include it originally because I didn't think the photo did it justice. I should have taken a top view picture so you could see all the stuff down under the rack.

That picture still surprises me and it's the second time I've seen the picture!

We too have had barbecue nests... yes... that is plural as it happened three times, each time during a different year! I was afraid to open it, as not to disturb the baby birds we had last year. When I did, well, it was a mess!

Adorable background, by the way! I love the colors!

I know what's for dinner...BBQ'd bird. That'll keep them from coming back, I'd think?!?

Hey, I saw your question about the school board candidates. None of them offered any contact information. Mick Shannon was the only one with a brochure or any actual campaign literature, but it didn't list a website or anything. Frankly, I don't think any of them is a particularly bad candidate but I just simply felt like he was the best one for the following reasons:

1- He's gone to every single transition meeting, which none of the others can claim, and consequently has a very strong grasp on the financial issues facing the district.
2- Lots of time. He's newly retired and very enthusiastic. The other candidates all still work full or part time, or have other big responsibilities that would limit their time they could invest in the district. I think the next four years are critical, and I really want someone who can devote all the time needed to it.
3- He's very concerned about the well being of all the special programs, including special ed and ALPS. Another mom was there asking about ALPS. None of them can promise anything, obviously, but it's definitely on the radar.
4- He's got a strong background in finances, since he founded the Children's Miracle Network and ran it for a couple of decades, growing it into a multimillion dollar success story. That says volumes to me.

There's my .02. Take it or leave it, just make sure you vote on the 24th of June and get all your neighbors to as well. You can email me at hvawdrey (at) gmail (dot) com with any more questions.

OH MY! I'll bet the kids got a kick out of that! All we get is a bee hive... and I feel ok about burning it. (I turn it on and run inside...as soon as they feel the heat, the bees come out really quick!)

We've also had birds build a nest in our barbecue. We had to clear it all out pretty well before making hamburgers. As long as we left the lid up, they didn't come back.
